Translating the Science of Allergy and Immunology into Clinical Medicine
In this presentation, Dr. David P. Huston, Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology and Associate Dean of the College of Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center, updates the audience on recent advances in the fields of allergy and immunology. He decribes recent insights into disease processes for the type 2 immune response disorders included in the Atopic March: allergic eczema, allergic rhinitis with or without nasal polyps, and allergic asthma. He also reviews recent FDA-approved biologics for the treatment of these conditions.
Dr. Huston discusses the clinical case of a 3-year old girl who presents with pulmonary alveolar proteinosis with a genetic abnormality, and explains how his team identified the etiology of this disease.
Target Audience
This CME/CE activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, residents, fellows, and community providers.
Faculty and trainees within the Department of Medicine who are involved in the care of patients need to be regularly updated with the recent advances and guidelines in the fields of internal medicine and quality improvement to increase clinical knowledge, and to implement the advances and guidelines in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
Discuss recent advances in understanding the molecular mechanism of allergic inflammatory disorders.
Apply mechanistic insights on allergic inflammation into strategies for developing therapres for allergic inflammatory disorders.
Translate potential therapeutic strategies for allergic inflammatory disorders into a precision clinical medicine approach for managing patients
