Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, residents, fellows, medical students and other healthcare providers across practice areas encounter health care equity issues such as health disparities, social determinants of health, cultural/linguistic competencies, and social justice. The series aims to broaden the awareness of learners in these topic areas provide strategies to address these issues as they arise.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Identify specific diseases that disproportionately affect underserved and vulnerable populations.
• Discuss the role of social determinants of health across the lifespan.
• Explain effective education, research, clinical care and community outreach solutions for improving health equity.
• Outline evidence-based, methodological, approaches for addressing policy, quality improvement, and assessment issues associated with mitigating health and healthcare inequities.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
