LGBTQ+ Comprehensive Primary Care Virtual Symposium 2026
Needs Statement
This activity is designed to address identified gaps in clinicians’ knowledge, competence, and performance related to the delivery of comprehensive, evidence-based primary care for LGBTQ+ patients. Evidence demonstrates persistent gaps in health professionals’ preparation to address LGBTQ+ health needs, including knowledge of LGBTQ+ health disparities, culturally responsive communication, bias and stigma, and clinical skills relevant to sexual and gender minority populations.
Through evidence-based didactic education, clinical application, interdisciplinary discussion, and perspectives reflecting the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals, the activity will provide physicians and advanced practice providers with practical strategies that can be incorporated into primary care. Educational content will address inclusive and affirming care environments, recognition and mitigation of bias and health disparities, and evidence-based whole-person care, including preventive, sexual and reproductive, mental, and physical health. The program will also include focused clinical education such as hormone therapy management.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Identify health disparities, barriers to care, and the effects of bias, stigma, and discrimination for persons from the LGBTQ+ community.
- Apply evidence-based recommendations for preventive, sexual and reproductive, mental, and physical healthcare for persons from the LGBTQ+ community.
- Apply evidence-based approaches to gender-affirming care, including appropriate assessment, initiation, monitoring, and management of hormone therapy.
