Needs Statement
There is a critical need for healthcare professionals to improve their ability to diagnose and manage genetic aortopathies in pediatric patients, as current educational gaps hinder optimal care. Many clinicians lack knowledge about when to perform genetic testing, have limited competence in determining the appropriate timing for initiating medication, and face challenges in recognizing when surgical referral is necessary. Addressing these gaps through targeted education will equip providers with the latest research and clinical strategies to improve long-term outcomes for affected children.
Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participants should be able to:
- Identify the appropriate genetic testing strategy for children with aortic dilation.
- Apply evidence-based guidelines to select and manage medication therapy for children with aortic dilation.
- Implement evidence-based strategies to determine the optimal timing for aortic surgery in children with aortopathy.
Target Audience
Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Genetic Counselors, Nurses, Trainees and Students.
Educational Methods
Lectures ▪ Panel Discussion ▪ Case Study ▪ Small Group Breakout Session
Activity Evaluation
Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
