In-person Conference
NEEDS STATEMENT
There is a critical need to address gaps in access to genetic services for children with rare diseases in Texas. This conference aims to expedite genetic evaluations for pediatric rare diseases in remote areas of the state to improve health outcomes. We will explore the current state of genomic healthcare delivery, identify challenges faced by healthcare professionals, and discuss strategies to reduce service gaps. Solutions and guidelines for referring children for genetic evaluations will be provided, along with an introduction to Consultagene, a virtual platform designed to ease the diagnostic odyssey and improve access to genetic care. Updates from Project GIVE, an NIH research study designed to accelerate genomic evaluation and testing for undiagnosed children in the Rio Grande Valley and El Paso, will also be presented.
