Needs Statement
To address the identified practice gaps in pediatric hematology, healthcare professionals require ongoing, targeted education that reinforces evidence-based practices and supports consistent, high-quality care. At Texas Children’s Hospital, annual needs assessments help identify high-yield topics tailored to the evolving needs of faculty, fellows, and clinical staff. Educational activities delivered through didactic presentations, case-based discussions, and other interactive formats are designed to enhance foundational knowledge, strengthen clinical reasoning, and promote the application of updated guidelines. There is a particular need to improve familiarity with validated assessment tools, build confidence in the use of emerging therapies, and to foster interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure optimal outcomes for pediatric patients.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and audience response.

- Interpret and explain the results of relevant laboratory tests and imaging studies to support clinical decision-making in pediatric hematology.
- Recognize and address the psychosocial and quality-of-life impacts associated with chronic hematologic conditions in pediatric patients and their families.
