Needs Statement
This series addresses the educational needs of participants by presenting complex IBD cases that require collaborative input from multiple specialties. It provides a structured platform to close gaps in diagnostic accuracy, treatment sequencing, and timely surgical referral. Through evidence-based discussions, participants refine their clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. The inclusion of expert gastrointestinal pathologists enhances diagnostic clarity, particularly in cases with ambiguous or overlapping features. The series also fosters interdisciplinary learning, encourages adherence to best practices, and reduces reliance on anecdotal or siloed approaches to care.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Evaluate the latest clinical and surgical research findings and emerging therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
- Identify complications associated with IBD such as strictures, fistulas, abscesses, and cancer.
- Apply appropriate surgical techniques to repair IBD-related complications such as strictures, fistulas, and abscesses and to manage IBD-associated cancer.
- Integrate multidisciplinary perspectives, including gastroenterology, surgery, and pathology, into individualized, evidence-based care plans.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
