Needs Statement
Several critical gaps persist in the cancer care of U.S. veterans, including biopsy referral and collection, tumor marker testing and interpretation of results, and individualization of treatment plans. Crucial knowledge gaps center around cancer therapy-related adverse events and drug interactions related to cancer therapy. These issues are compounded by disparities in access to cancer care and treatment and the participation of under-represented communities in clinical trials. This tumor board will facilitate the discussion of topics to address these gaps by providing a structured educational forum that supports development of deeper understanding of cancer care, promotes multidisciplinary collaboration and decision-making, fosters critical thinking and evidence-based practice, and enhances patient-centered care. Discussions will emphasize the importance of factors such as medical history, socioeconomic status, and patient preferences in developing individualized treatment plans. This series will provide a unique forum for discussing the ethical aspects of cancer care, including health disparities, informed consent, and end-of-life decisions.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include case presentations.
