Target Audience and Needs
Community health physicians and research faculty, Harris Health primary care providers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, social workers, psychotherapists, and other primary care providers need to receive regular updates on advances in primary care medicine. The series serves as a platform to review evidence-based improvements in healthcare quality and risk reduction, the value of a multidisciplinary team and integrated patient care, the importance of trauma-informed care to physician-patient communication, and the utilization of community health resources outside the clinical environment. Overall, the series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, improve their clinical skills and competencies, enhance the quality of primary care, and improve patient outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and panel discussion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Describe updates in preventive, chronic, and acute primary care evaluated through the lens of evidence-based medicine.
- Recommend best practices for screening, treatment, and management of patients by integrating both the clinical and health system science frameworks.
- Appraise the changing healthcare environment to outline efforts aimed at provider well-being, increased patient engagement, and advocacy for health equity.
- Identify the essential components of patient safety and quality improvement and incorporate them into standards of practice.
- Describe the expanded role of a medical provider in valued-based care environments to continuously improve clinical practices through a multidisciplinary approach.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
