Target Audience and Needs

Gastroenterologists, oncologists, colorectal surgeons, pathologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, fellows, residents, and other healthcare trainees in gastroenterology and related fields need to receive regular updates on research advances and emerging therapies related to inflammatory bowel diseases.  To underscore the complex management of these diseases and their complications, select cases will be reviewed in the context of a multidisciplinary team approach, evidence-based findings from the clinical and surgical literature will be evaluated, and current expert opinions considered.  The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote current clinical and surgical best practices, enhance the quality of care for inflammatory bowel diseases, and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.  

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Recognize the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach for optimal care of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs).
• Learn effective strategies for collaborating with all specialists involved in the care of patients with IBDs.
• Evaluate the latest clinical and surgical research findings and emerging therapies for IBDs.
• Identify complications associated with IBDs, such as strictures, fistulas, abscesses, and cancer.
• Apply the appropriate surgical techniques to repair IBD-related strictures, fistulas and abscesses and to treat IBD-related cancer.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
