Needs Statement

There is a pressing need to address gaps in understanding the cell biology crosstalk and communication within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract for the detection and treatment of digestive diseases. While recent advancements have been made in this field, many clinicians and researchers remain unaware of these developments. The upcoming 2024 scientific symposium, organized in conjunction with the Texas Medical Center Digestive Diseases Center (DDC) Annual Retreat, presents an opportunity to bridge this gap. With its theme centered around "Frontiers in GI Cell Biology: Crosstalk and Communication," the symposium aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent research and clinical applications in this area. By offering insights into topics such as GI injury, infection, and metabolism, the symposium will facilitate a deeper understanding of new research developments and current clinical best practices, thus addressing the crucial need for enhanced knowledge and awareness in the field of GI cell biology.

Target Audience

Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Digestive Diseases Researchers, Scientists Medical Students &Trainees, and other healthcare professionals with an interest in digestive diseases research. 

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

• Define cell biology crosstalk and communication in GI tract, its history and future applications in treating and preventing digestive diseases.
• Interpret current research developments regarding cell biology crosstalk and communication in the GI tract.
• Apply cell biology crosstalk and communication in GI tract to the detection and treatment of digestive diseases.

Activity Evaluation

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
