Needs Statement

Updating practicing physicians and other health professionals in both the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal and liver diseases/conditions is essential to providing quality care leading to improved patient outcomes. The goal of this activity is to review current as well as emerging medical therapies and to outline the most effective ways to integrate this information into clinical practice.

Target Audience

Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, internists, primary care physicians, nurses, physician assistants, medical trainees and students.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the value of genetic testing for the management and prognosis of colorectal polyposis syndromes.
  • Compare and contrast the role of genetic testing for the management chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cyst and pancreatic cancer.
  • Recognize the role of ethnicity and race in determining interval surveillance endoscopy for various gastrointestinal conditions
    such as gastric intestinal metaplasia and Barrett's esophagus.
  • Discuss when to order genetic tests in patient with acute recurrent pancreatitis.

Activity Evaluation

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
