All Texas PEM Fellow Conference – Pediatric Burn Management in the Pediatric Emergency Department
Needs Statement
Many Emergency Physicians may not have worked or trained at a designated burn center. Practice gaps exist with respect to the evaluation, resuscitation, and management of the pediatric burn patient in the pre-hospital and emergency department setting. This activity is to provide knowledge on proper initial resuscitative care and long-term treatment for severe pediatric burns.
Target Audience
This activity is for Physicians, Residents, Fellows, Faculty, medical students that are practicing in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Pediatrics at multiple institutions across the state of Texas.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology, basic pathology, and systemic physiology of pediatric burns
- Identify basic pre-hospital goals and implement initial resuscitative care for severe pediatric burns
- Implement appropriate Emergency Department workup and direct treatment plans for patients with severe burns
