Community Based Physicians Quarterly Meeting: Labor and Sex Trafficking Overview for Healthcare Professionals

Overview

The healthcare arena is one of the few areas that interact with victims of human trafficking on a regular basis, particularly primary care and urgent care settings. This activity is aimed to help clinicians identify potential signs of labor and human trafficking and make them aware of state and local resources/organizations that can provide assistance. 

 

Target Audience

This activity is for Primary Care Physicians, OB/Gyn, Urgent Care staff, and other UTMB clinical providers or staff members that provide service to patients

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, the participants should be able to:

  • List the risk factors of labor and sex trafficking of children
  • Explain the importance of implementing anti-human trafficking protocols
  • Describe the role of a healthcare provider in prevention, identification, referral, treatment, aftercare and advocacy for human trafficking victims
