Needs StatementIn the early months of 2020, a new respiratory viral infection appeared in China.  The virus, SARS-COV-2 (for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) would lead to a global pandemic in producing COVID-19 disease. Little was known about the disease, its spread, its many manifestations, treatments, and the long-term complications of infections.

NEEDS STATEMENTTopical lectures and application exercises on skills and abilities supporting faculty training of residents in a training environment split between urban and rural health care settings will mitigate gaps in knowledge and ability by faculty in the Family Medicine Rural Residency Program. The selected topics for instruction and training were identified by a needs assessment sent to faculty of Baylor College of Medicine St. Luke's East Texas Family Medicine Residency Program.

NEEDS STATEMENTThe structure of this activity will provide on demand virtual modules and application exercises on skills and abilities supporting faculty training students and residents in clinical environments that exist in both urban and rural healthcare settings. It will mitigate gaps in knowledge and ability by faculty in selected topics for instruction and training that were identified by a needs assessment of faculty in a recent survey of programs such as family medicine and also are consistently identified by clinical trainees as areas for improvement in clinical teaching.
