Target Audience and Needs

Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists in the Department of Surgery need to receive regular updates on advances in surgical techniques and technologies and evolving surgical practice patterns.  The aim of the series is to broaden the fund of knowledge and procedural skills of advanced practice providers in the surgical field and provide a forum for professional development.  It also aims to enhance the quality of surgical care, facilitate better communication with patients and other healthcare professionals, and improve patient outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Review updated clinical practice guidelines to identify current evidence-based clinical practice recommendations.
  • Demonstrate greater understanding of the pathophysiology of diseases.
  • Evaluate novel surgical practices and technologies.
  • Identify practice patterns to target for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Recognize opportunities for professional development.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
