Target Audience

Needs Statement

To address the identified practice gaps in the consistent application of multidisciplinary care, participants require enhanced competencies in several key areas that this series aims to support. First, there is a need to strengthen multidisciplinary decision-making skills by emphasizing the value of collaborative case discussions and the demonstrated impact of repeated tumor board reviews on patient survival. The series will utilize roundtable discussions and case presentations to place a critical focus on treatment algorithms for various tumor types, enabling participants to become better equipped to discuss and implement these algorithms in clinical practice. Clinicians will also be made aware of ongoing and upcoming clinical trials, including eligibility criteria and enrollment processes, to integrate investigational therapies more effectively into patient care. The series will improve proficiency in both clinical and pathological cancer staging which is essential for accurate prognostication and treatment planning. Finally, participants will be prepared to incorporate patient-centered considerations, such as comorbidities, preferences, and psychosocial factors to ensure individualized and holistic care.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Distinguish between resectable and unresectable tumors and between locally advanced and metastatic disease.
• Apply appropriate, evidence-based treatment algorithms tailored to specific tumor types.
• Identify and evaluate ongoing clinical trials for potential patient enrollment and evidence-based recommendations.
• Utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to enhance consultation practices and improve continuity of care for patients with cancer.

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
