Target Audience and Needs

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted stressors within the healthcare system that have adversely affected the practice of medicine and the well-being of healthcare professionals. This series aims to introduce leadership coaching as a means to reduce burnout, increase resiliency, and promote self-awareness. Grounded in positive psychology, leadership coaching is an important modality for learner-directed improvement in performance, professional relationships, communication skills, and personal satisfaction. The series will also demonstrate leadership coaching as a useful tool for promoting faculty development and optimizing personal and professional potential.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the coaching approaches used in healthcare ecosystems.

  • Discern differences between coaching, mentorship, and advising and appropriately apply these methods in different situations.
  • Develop and practice the key coaching skills such as active listening and open-ended questioning to enhance coaching effectiveness.
