Target Audience and Needs

Infectious disease physicians, fellows, residents, medical students, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals in the Texas Medical Center need to receive regular updates on advances in the field of infection prevention.  The series will examine a wide range of topics, such as hospital-acquired infections, opportunistic infections, multi-drug antimicrobial resistance, and the principles of antimicrobial stewardship.  The series also aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote guideline-based infection prevention, enhance decision-making surrounding antibiotic usage, and improve patient outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Apply the concepts of infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship in clinical practice.
  • Utilize appropriate methods to prevent hospital-acquired infections.
  • Employ clinical decision-support tools to develop projects aimed at quality improvement of infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship programs.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
