Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, advanced practice providers, sonographers, and physician trainees in the field of obstetrics and gynecology and maternal-fetal medicine need to receive regular updates on advances in ultrasound technologies and evidence-based diagnostic techniques.  The series aims to improve the ultrasound skills of providers and trainees through hands-on instruction that will be supplemented with self-guided learning and group didactics.  The overall goal of the series is to enhance ultrasound diagnosis of fetal abnormalities by improving medical knowledge and sonographer skill level in order to optimize delivery of ultrasound services and maternal and fetal outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate greater understanding of ultrasound protocols and the rationale for acquiring specific images at different stages of pregnancy.
  • Review and apply evidence-based guidelines for conducting a high-quality ultrasound evaluations of pregnant and non-pregnant women.
  • Discuss the principles supporting Doppler studies and explain when to use these studies to optimize pregnancy outcomes.
  • Distinguish normal from abnormal fetal anatomy to better diagnose fetal anomalies.
  • Perform a complete fetal echocardiographic examination.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
