Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, and hospital staff require regular updates on the evolving management of acute stroke and acute cerebral hemorrhage care.  This series aims to expand the knowledge of learners specifically with regard to the goals of stroke care while underscoring the importance of neurologic assessment, radiologic imaging, laboratory testing, and timing of interventions.  The series also aims to improve their clinical skills and enhance the quality of stroke care to optimize patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, cases presentations, and literature review.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the session, the participants should be able to:

• Identify and manage common risk factors for ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack.
• Assess and appropriately triage patients who have ischemic stroke or acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, especially patients who potentially have large vessel occlusions.
• Manage ischemic stroke or acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in an ICU setting.
• Recognize and treat the potential complications of ischemic stroke and acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
• Determine when rapid intervention is needed in patients with ischemic stroke.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
