Target Audience and Needs
Family medicine practitioners (MDs and DOs), and other healthcare professionals (RNs, PAs, and NPs) in primary care clinics across the State of Texas need to be updated about the best clinical practices for assessing and managing patients with behavioral health and substance use disorders. The aim of the series is to assist healthcare providers in underserved areas by providing opportunities to learn how to implement advanced clinical conceptualization models, treatment planning techniques, and evidence-based practices to enhance clinical performance.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Summarize different assessment strategies and treatment modalities for psychiatric and substance use disorders.
- Outline strategies to evaluate and manage common behavioral, emotional, and substance-related problems encountered in patients in the primary care setting.
- Identify and implement current clinical best practices in the fields of psychiatry, clinical psychology, and other behavioral health care professions.
- Review the clinical manifestations, cultural influences, and diagnostic criteria for various psychiatric and substance use disorders to formulate a comprehensive treatment plan.
- Incorporate advanced clinical case conceptualization skills and best available evidence to manage patients with complex psychiatric and substance use disorders by reducing reliance on referrals to specialists.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
