Target Audience

Educational Needs

Psychiatrists require updated knowledge of evolving evidence-based guidelines and neurobiological insights to better understand and treat complex psychiatric conditions, particularly those with comorbid medical and psychosocial factors. They need enhanced competence in diagnostic formulation and treatment planning using transdiagnostic approaches like the Unified Protocol and cognitive behavioral therapy, which emphasize emotion regulation and relapse prevention across diverse populations. Additionally, there is a performance need to implement collaborative, culturally competent, and measurement-based care models in routine practice to improve long-term outcomes and reduce relapse rates.

Educational methods will include lectures.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• State the challenges in treating mental illness with comorbid medical conditions among underserved populations in the United States.
• Summarize the latest evidence-based research findings on the treatment of various psychiatric illnesses.
• Develop strategies to integrate applicable research findings into the care of underserved patients with co-morbid psychiatric and medical illnesses, emphasizing collaborative and culturally competent care.

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
