Target Audience and Needs
Harris Health System psychiatrists and psychologists need to receive regular updates on evidence-based advances in psychiatry and psychology practice. National guidelines on clinical topics such as addiction and medication management will be used as an impetus for discussion. Ethical issues surrounding psychiatry and psychology practice will also be reviewed. The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, enhance the quality of mental healthcare, and improve patient outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures and literature review.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Apply current practice guidelines for common mental health diagnoses.
- Identify mental health conditions outside of their core competency and refer patients for appropriate treatment.
- Review current practice guidelines for medical conditions commonly seen in psychiatric patients.
- Expand their knowledge of evolving areas in psychiatry and psychology practice that affect state medical board requirements.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
