Target Audience and Needs

Hematologists, other physician specialists, fellows, nurse practitioners, and research staff involved in the field of pediatric hematology need to be regularly updated on advances in basic science projects, clinical studies, and quality improvement initiatives. The series aims to complement the clinical knowledge of the learners by providing a greater understanding of hematologic disease pathophysiology to enhance research, augment treatment modalities, and improve healthcare outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and literature review.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Review and evaluate research results to determine which can be implemented into patient care.
  • Summarize the pathophysiology of hematologic disease and how it affects the rationale of treatment approaches for pediatric patients.
  • Implement strategies for hematologic collaborative research such as basic science projects, clinical studies, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for future research and collaboration to address the challenges in expanding the workforce needs in hematology research.
