Target Audience and Needs

This education series is targeted at pediatric hematology-oncology faculty, residents, fellows, medical officers, clinical officers, nurses, pharmacists, medical students, and other healthcare professionals in the Global HOPE network in Africa and Houston involved in the management of children with pediatric hematological malignancies. The series aims to increase knowledge of the learners regarding the clinical challenges and appropriate management strategies in patients with pediatric hematological malignancies in resource-constrained settings, and encourages learners to implement the recommendations and protocols for adapted treatment in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and literature review.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Analyze the key features of the case presented and challenges faced by the setting to appropriately manage the patient.
  • Discuss the standard of care—regardless of setting—for pediatric cancers and blood disorders and the adaptations required to provide the best available care for patients in resource-limited settings.
  • Identify the ethical implications of the management of pediatric cancers and blood disorders in resource-limited settings.
  • Evaluate, modify, and effectively implement protocols to address the particular clinical needs and resource constraints at their practice site.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
