Needs StatementDespite overwhelming evidence that active learning pedagogies produce better educational outcomes, traditional lecturing remains the dominant mode of instruction in medical education. This workshop and presentation will be focused on educating medical instructors on the benefits of active learning strategies. The goal is to improve attendees’ knowledge of the benefits of active learning for teaching medical students and trainees as well as to strive toward competence in adopting active learning methods in their own teaching practice.

Needs StatementThousands of survivors of human rights abuses seek humanitarian protection in the U.S. annually, relying on personal narratives of abuse to support claims to asylum. Medical legal documentation of physical and psychological sequelae of abuse by health professionals trained in the forensic evaluation of asylum seekers offers significant support to survivors' asylum claims. However, the need for evaluations exceeds the number of providers trained to perform them.
