Target Audience and Needs
Geriatricians, palliative care physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, geriatric fellows, family medicine and internal medicine residents, medical students, social workers, pharmacists, and rehabilitation specialists need to receive regular updates on advances in geriatric research and professional guidelines for geriatric and palliative care. The series aims to provide specialty training to healthcare professionals to foster greater understanding of functional decline in elderly adults, enhance age-appropriate care, and promote quality-of-life improvements focused on the Age Friendly Health System "4Ms" construct (medications, mentation, mobility, and what matters most to the patient). The series also aims to encourage engagement in clinical research and professional development activities that will enrich geriatric and palliative medicine.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Evaluate clinical activities according to the Age Friendly Health System 4Ms construct.
- Identify areas for improvement in geriatric clinical practice.
- Demonstrate greater understanding of geriatric syndromes and their relationship to life expectancy.
- Develop strategies to promote patient-focused care that is sensitive to geriatric syndromes.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
