Target Audience and Needs

Clinician scientists, research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and clinical fellows involved in basic, clinical, and translational research need to receive regular updates on recent advances in research strategies and methodologies to develop expertise in spearheading and leading projects, accessing and analyzing relevant data, preparing results for dissemination and implementation, and pursuing new ideas for investigation.  The series aims to promote new collaborative research partnerships, with an emphasis on translational research, to address health-related challenges and to fulfill a core education requirement for clinical residency and postdoctoral training on principles of scientific inquiry.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and literature review.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify research projects, initiatives, and priorities at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center aimed at improving healthcare for veterans and non-veterans.
  • Apply expertise in various areas of research into future or existing projects, highlighting the role of physician-scientists.  
  • Discuss recent advances in the development of research (basic, clinical, and translational) modalities.
  • Implement strategies to design, conduct, and evaluate research applicable to patient care..

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
