Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, residents, fellows, medical students, and other healthcare professionals in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery need to be regularly updated on the guidelines and advances in orthopedics, as well as in professionalism and wellness strategies. The series aims to increase knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, and encourage them to implement the advances and guidelines in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss recent advances in knowledge in the various core subpecialties of orthopedics.
  • Apply evidence-based clinical practice changes to improve patient care.
  • Recognize the hallmarks of burn-out and apply useful wellness strategies for burn-out avoidance.
  • Identify professional behavioral problems and outline real-time solutions.
  • Identify opioid overuse and/or overprescription, as well as describe how to avoid prescribing opioids.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
