Target Audience and Needs
Physicians, residents, fellows, nurses and other healthcare professionals such as case workers and nurse practitioners need to be regularly updated on best practices in patient safety and quality improvement, including in the areas of discharge planning, workplace violence, provider burnout and error reporting. The series aims to broaden the knowledge base of learners in these topic areas and improve their competencies to enhance the patient care experience and outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Summarize recent trends in discharge planning, workplace violence, burnout and error reporting emphasizing their correlation with the building of a culture of patient safety in a hospital environment.
- Formulate up-to-date hospital-wide processes and procedures based on the latest research in the areas of prevention strategies for workplace violence against physicians and staff, as well as strategies for reporting, and accurate discharge planning to increase patient safety and quality.
- Outline recommendations from the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies on the prevention initiatives to reduce workplace errors and burnout among hospital and healthcare workers.
- Recognize when, where, and how to report violent behavior and why such information is important for staff and physician safety in the healthcare environment.
