Target Audience and Needs

Pediatric hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, pediatric surgery, and radiology physicians, residents, fellows and medical students need to be regularly updated on advances in the diagnosis and management of patients with hematologic disorders and malignancies. The series aims to broaden the knowledge base of learners in these topic areas and improve their competencies to enhance the patient care experience and outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Identify and differentiate therapeutic options for childhood cancer and blood disorders and the complications of therapy.
• Define the roles of pathology, transfusion medicine, radiology, surgery, radiation therapy, and other specialties in aiding the diagnosis and management of pediatric cancer and blood disorders.
• Interpret and correlate imaging studies in pediatric cancer and blood disorders.
• Recognize that anticoagulation goals and plans are different depending on the clinical condition of the child, underlying disease process, and reason for anticoagulation.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
