Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, psychologists, residents, fellows, physician assistants, nurses, and social workers in a variety of disciplines need to be regularly updated on strategies for navigating suicidal grief, posttraumatic growth, and adverse clinical outcomes. The series aims to increase knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, and to enhance the quality of care and improve outcomes.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • List three unique aspects of suicidal grief.
  • Disease two specific methods of navigating suicidal grief with patients.
  • Outline the main components of posttraumatic growth and how use of the "expert companion" approach may maximize a patient's potential for posttraumatic growth.
  • Provide consultation and support for clinicians who have experienced adverse clinical outcomes.
  • Identify and address the emotional responses to a patient's suicide.
  • Create an environment and space for clinicians to share experiences, support colleagues, and learn from others.
