Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, residents, fellows and physician assistants in a pediatric, obstetrics-gynecology or neonatology specialty need to be regularly updated about evidence-based practices and advances in the field of perinatal medicine and mother/fetus/newborn clinical management. The series aims to increase knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, and to improve their clinical skills and competencies, which will contribute to enhancing the quality of care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate basic and clinical research related to maternal-fetal medicine.
  • Examine ethical issues related to perinatal care.
  • Identify the pathophysiology in the mother and fetus/newborn.
  • Develop a management plan for the care of the mother and fetus/newborn and counsel a patient regarding the risks of elective delivery prior to thirty-nine weeks’ gestation.
  • Review and determine if new recommendations related to clinical issues that affect both mother and child (e.g., hypertension, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and infections) are evidence-based, relevant, and will improve patient care and outcomes.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
