Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, residents, fellows, physician assistants, and nurses in a pediatric or neonatology clinical setting need to be regularly updated on the advances in pathology of diseases in neonates, the natural history of diseases, issues in diagnostic pathology, and disease prevention.  The series aims to increase knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, and to enhance the quality of care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures and case presentations.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Improve case-based medical knowledge applicable to patient care, such as abnormal anatomic structures, unusual presentations of common conditions, and typical and novel complications of treatment.
  • Analyze the systemic issues contributing to medical errors or treatment complications.
  • Contribute to the institutional quality improvement effort to reduce complications and preventable adverse events.
  • Apply increased knowledge and skills to improve collaborative, interprofessional care and patient outcomes.

Evaluation
