Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, residents, fellows, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of neonates need to be regularly updated on the best strategies for reviewing, analyzing, and applying medical literature to clinical practice.  The series also aims to increase knowledge of the learners with the most current evidence related to neonatal disease processes and diagnostic and treatment modalities to enhance the quality of care and improve patient outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include literature review.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Assess articles on new therapies in neonatology and determine relevance to clinical practice.
  • Discuss the etiology of the disease being reported.
  • Discuss the old and new treatment modalities reported.
  • Identify new areas of research relating to that disease process/entity and apply clinical research findings into practice.
  • Utilize evidence-based medicine methodology to critique treatment received or planned for neonates admitted to the NICU or who underwent major clinical events.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
