NEEDS STATEMENTMentalization Based Treatment (MBT) is a therapeutic approach rooted in attachment theory and psychodynamic principles, focusing on enhancing individuals' capacity for mentalizing – the ability to understand and interpret one's own and others' thoughts, feelings, and intentions. MBT has been adapted for use with adolescents to address their unique developmental challenges and emotional needs.

Need Statement Suicide is a leading cause of death in youth nationally, as well as within the state of Texas (Curtin & Heron, 2019; Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 2020). There is increasing recognition from pediatric providers and hospitals that the nation is facing an epidemic of youth admitted to emergency departments (EDs) because of suicidal behaviors, and this increased dramatically during COVID (51% higher in winter 2021, compared to winter 2019; Yard, et al. 2021).

NEEDS STATEMENTThere is an inevitable tendency of specialists to restrict their life-long medical education to topics germane to their own subspecialty. This is to the detriment of their patients who can only benefit from their physicians familiarity with evolving trends in diagnosis and treatment across multiple medical subspecialties. Gas and Gasoline, and MD Motorheads, seek to bring together sub specialists from a variety of disciples in an effort to cross-educate in evolving trends in diagnosis and treatments.

NEEDS STATEMENTInequalities in genetic services for the care of Hispanic children with rare diseases living along the Texas-Mexico border has long been a major health concern. Rare genetic diseases are frequently disabling and often reduce life expectancy, either causing early childhood death, life-threatening medical complications, and/or chronic neurodevelopmental problems. Lack of knowledge of the front-line healthcare providers regarding ascertainment and evaluation of genetic diseases is a critical barrier in providing timely diagnoses to children in this population.
