Target Audience and Needs
Physicians, fellows, residents, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, medical students, and students in other health professions need to receive regular updates on recent advances in internal medicine. Special sessions will focus specifically on undergraduate and graduate medical education, ethical issues, quality improvement, patient safety, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The series aims to expand clinical knowledge, implement evidence-based clinical practices, enhance the quality of care for U.S. veterans, and improve patient outcomes.
Educational Methods
Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and literature review.
Objectives
At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:
- Identify recent advances in internal medicine and hospital-based medicine.
- Implement evidence-based guidelines in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
- Delineate recent changes in best practices related to undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Recognize how aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion affect the practice of medicine at an academic medical center.
- Distinguish the best approaches to improve healthcare quality for U.S. veterans and to promote patient safety.
Evaluation
Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
