Target Audience and Needs

Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, transplant surgeons, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, fellows, residents, and other healthcare trainees in gastroenterology and related fields need to receive regular updates on research advances regarding the pathophysiology and natural history of gastrointestinal disorders.  New areas of investigation will be highlighted, including emerging diagnostic tools, therapeutic techniques, and management strategies.  The series aims to expand the knowledge of learners, promote current clinical best practices, enhance the quality of gastroenterology care, and improve patient outcomes.


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, and literature review.  


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss available and emerging bariatric endoscopy techniques, particularly as they relate to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Describe the prevalence and natural history of the major types of pancreatic cysts and current recommendations for their treatment or surveillance.
  • Develop a diagnostic and therapeutic approach for patients with dysphagia or other esophageal disorders, including the use of emerging diagnostic tools and endoscopic treatments.
  • Recognize the importance of performing diagnostic paracentesis at admission for patients with gastrointestinal disorders, especially for those with decompensated cirrhosis.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
