Target Audience and Needs

Infectious diseases faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, and pharmacists who are involved in the care of patients need to be regularly updated with the recent advances and guidelines in the field of infectious disease, including hospital-acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, infections related to chemotherapy and immunomodulators, and travel-acquired infections. The conference aims to increase clinical knowledge of the learners in these topic areas, and to implement the advances and guidelines in clinical practice to enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes.

Educational Methods

Educational methods will include case presentations, literature review, and panel discussion.

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

• Identify different etiologies and treatments of hospital-acquired infections.
• Review antimicrobial patterns of resistance and identify treatment for multi-drug resistant infections.
• Develop a differential diagnosis for returning travelers who present with fever.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
