Target Audience and Needs

Physicians, faculty, anesthesiologists, fellows, residents and medical students at Baylor College of Medicine need to be regularly updated with new advances and guidelines in anesthesiology to increase clinical knowledge, and implement them in clinical practice to improve competence and enhance the quality of patient care and outcomes. 


Educational Methods

Educational methods will include lectures, case presentations, literature review, panel discussion, and systems-based practice.


Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Discuss recent advances in surgical technique and critical care management of patients after trauma.
  • Apply point-of-care ultrasound techniques to daily patient care to improve perioperative management of patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of alternative medications to use during shortages in order to be able to continue providing quality perioperative care of patients.
  • Explain how to handle ethical challenges faced during perioperative care.
  • Provide safe management of patients who present for surgery and anesthesia with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices.

Evaluation

Participants may be asked to complete a session evaluation.
