Needs Statement

Pediatric emergency medicine providers need updated on how racial disparities may interfere with the ethical management of pain in the EC as well as information regarding resources that are available within the section and department for planning scholarly projects.This activity will address efficacious pain management in the EC (clinical care/patient care, systems-based practice), developing a scholarly project (education/practice-based learning), and virtual education (education, interpersonal communication and skills).

Objectives

At the conclusion of the sessions, the participants should be able to:

  • Review the evidence for outpatient pain treatment strategies for children, including racial and ethnic disparities in prescribing.

  • Examine one's proposed project objective and methodology to determine 2 ways to enhance its rigor and build a draft timeline with action items for the entire scholarly project.

  • Develop a strategy for creating an interactive environment virtually and effectively utilize 2 new tools to improve the virtual education environment.


Evaluation

Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
